Maybe it is more our job than I thought…

So I have been perusing http://news.google.com for the phrase “IBM i” to see if our beloved platform received adequate representation.  I wasn’t surprised to see that ZERO IBM.com sites made the list and it was mostly ITJungle that was responsible it being noticed.  Note it might be different based on others’ searches or the search [...]

Giving Body and Soul

I had the cool honor of being interviewed for the ENDPGM portion of the IBMSystemsMag trade rag.

You can find the article here.  I learned the hard way that you should wear contacts when doingn a 1/2 marathon (I was too cheap to buy some – never again! :-), you can see my mole-ish eyes peering [...]

Sharing files quickly and easily with non-coworkers

Check out these sites for easy ways to share large files with someone else that you don’t want to send via email.  They are useful for times where you don’t have access to your own hosted server to put something on to, or if somebody needs to get you a large file and you don’t [...]

I am running the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago marathon.  I can’t hardly believe it.  I have been training for about 2 months now and have 1 month to go.  After many years of pursuing things for my own benefit, I am finding that leaves a guy empty and I am now finding that life is [...]

zotero – give your research a place to document itself

I thought this was an interesting site because it seems to have come from a somewhat non-technical community that learned how to use technology to their benefit – very cool!  The description of the Zotero tools is as follows: “ZoteroFirefox extension to help you collect, manage, [...]

iGoogle Tabs – Google you did wrong…

Google introduced a new feature of putting the iGoogle home page tabs on the left of the page where they take up a whole bunch of space.
To fix the issue simply make this your home page or go to this URL and things will be back to normal.

$98 laptop – Almost too tempting to resist

I must say it is amazing what they can put together these days for a very small price.  A company named HiVision (China I believe) recently released a laptop that you can buy for $98 and it allows you to have a Linux of WinCE OS along with WiFi (and FireFox) along with a bunch [...]

Microsoft creating a non-Windows OS, you have my attention

Microsoft has long been trying to get into the enterprise server market but has been unable to because their foundation is rotten (i.e. building a software that was meant for the desktop and a single user).  Well they are now try to rectify that by introducing a new effort code named Midori which is in [...]

Alice – Getting next generations interested in IT

Of course as a father and someone who greatly enjoys programming computers I would want to test the waters to see if my children would also be interested in the same subject matter. (a bit selfish, I know, but I don’t try to steer my daughters away from other things like playing violin even though [...]
